Short video on how a priest, Father Biran Hersey, adoptes a Honda Ruckus scooter as a means to fight higher gas prices. Though the main point is sound, the report is wrong in many ways. It speaks of motorscooters starting at $1500 and going up to $9000 and also contends that they are currently out of stock and hard to find. Of course neither of these is true. Scooter prices are certain to be going up though. With the weak dollar, imported scooters will be going up in price as soon as the stock is exhausted which was bought months ago when the dollar was stronger.

There is now a good deal of choice among low-cost, high-reliablity classic-design scooters. The new Roadrunner i-scooters promise to take over the online scooter world with low prices, extensive warrantys, and manufacturer support.

This little machine costs less than $600, has an electric motor, a top speed of 20-25 mph, a range of 20-25 miles on a charge, and -- PEDALS(!). The presence of the pedals (or even just the fact that pedals can be installed) makes this a bicycle and, as a bicycle, it need not be registered in most states!. See Electric Scooters
In California, one must be at least 16, and wear a bicycle helmet, but motorized bicycles are exempt from vehicular regulation.
