The stand-up or standing scooter is a small scooter designed to have the rider primarily in the standing position. They have a deck upon which to stand in the center and may optionally have a seat. Usually powered with either a small gas or electric utility engine, they are ideal for short, one-person, luggageless transport.

Note: The legality and usage restrictions of Stand-up scooter vary widely from state to state.

The The 49cc Dirt Dog $319.95 On Sale

The 49cc Dirt Dog
The 49cc Dirt Dog

The Dirt Dog is a stand-up sit-down scooter with a powerful pull-start two stroke 49cc engine (the same displacement found in Minimalist Scooters). It has disk brakes front and rear, and a top speed of 30mph. It's 250 lb carrying capacity will handle even a full-sized person. Comfort suspension is standard on both wheels.

Note: The two-stroke engine does require a gas-oil mix.

Weighing only about 50 lbs, it uses a folding design and will fit comfortably in a trunk -- ideal for short trips when camping (See RVs and Scooters).

The Dirt Dog comes from Global Trailer, which has been selling scooters for over five years and has deserved a reputation for quality and support.

The The 500 watt Zapper Electric Scooter $199.95. On Sale

The 500 watt Zapper Electric Scooter

The 500 watt Zapper Electric Scooter is limited to 10-14 M.P.H., but zips around handily (see Youtube clip below). It has a range of only about 3-4 miles with a recharging time of 3-6 hours. This is not a scooter for great distances but is ideal for campus or in-plant transport. The legality of the Zapper is not clearly defined as it does not have pedals and cannot therefore be a bicycle. We are working on the question.
