The Best SAT Vocabulary Books

cover SAT Practice: The New Verbal Section presents easy-to-read-and-understand stories packed with vocabulary. Uses a side-by-side glossary -- unlike those requiring constant looking-up. Also provides extensive glossary with word variants, comprehension quizzes, grammar notes, and, believe it or not, it's fun! (Check out the sample chapter and the index in particular). $17.95

Note: Please see our Children's Book Page containing downloadable books, excerpts from, and commentary on books chosen for their masterful use of the English language -- vocabulary practice for the years of peak language acquisition.

cover Bringing Words to Life: Robust Vocabulary Instruction Excellent approach to vocabulary building. $19.00

cover The New York Times Dictionary of Misunderstood, Misused, Mispronounced Words A superb collection! $9.95

Note on the SAT Vocabulary Novel Series: This collection of thrillers do incorporate moderately challenging vocabulary into reasonably absorbing stories. As a whole, however, the writing style used tends to be conversational and unsophisticated -- not the best example of edited erudition for the student to assimilate and emulate. On the other hand, they are easy to read and clearly better than nothing. Be sure to read the online sample, Busted, and come to your own conclusions.

cover Busted (SAT Vocabulary Novel Series) "College freshman and criminology major Kim Stratford goes undercover in a prep school to bust a drug ring, and finds herself falling for one of the chief suspects." $7.95

For a limited time, Busted can be read online with vocabulary terms linking directly into the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary.

cover Head Over Heels (SAT Vocabulary Novel Series) "Francesca Castarelli's junior year of high school is going smoothly until she agrees to be tutored by the school's newest heartbreaker." $7.95

cover Vampire Dreams (SAT Vocabulary Novel Series) "James Weston is a typical young, stylish British guy sampling the nightlife in Manhattan. With just one exception -- he happens to be a vampire." $7.95

A strange choice of words: "British guy" -- "British chap" or "British bloke" would be fine but no Brit would ever describe himself as a "guy" which has quite a different meaning in Britain than in the US. (Guy: A person of odd or grotesque appearance or dress; or an effigy of Guy Fawkes).

cover Sun-kissed (SAT Vocabulary Novel Series) "Kristen Carmichael would rather spend her days surfing the New Hampshire coastline than worrying about her social standing at school. But when a horrible rumor turns her into a social outcast, she finds herself reaching out to Nate, a troubled young man she would have run from when she was popular." $7.95

cover The Wizard of Oz Vocabulary Builder The classic story retold with extensive vocabulary. $19.95

cover Simon's Saga for the SAT I Verbal A college story splattered liberally with exigent, if incongruous, vocabulary. $9.95

cover Tooth and Nail: A Novel Approach to the New SAT A mystery novel set around the freshman year of college. $13.00

cover SAT Vocabulary for Dummies $16.99

cover Vocabulary Cartoons Building an Educated Vocabulary With Visual Mnemonics 12.95

cover The Ring of McAllister A Score-Raising Mystery Featuring 1,000 Must-Know SAT Vocabulary Words $13.00

cover 500 Key Words for the SAT, and How to Remember Them Forever! $14.95

cover Hot Words for the Sat I $9.95

cover SAT Vocabulary Flip-O-Matic $12.00
